Your guide and driver will meet you at your downtown hotel or designated meeting point, then depart for the Dazu Baodingshan scenic area, a roughly 1.5-hour drive through Chongqing’s suburban countryside. Your guide will share a brief background of the site to set the context for the visit.

09:30 – 12:30 – Baodingshan Rock Carvings Visit

Upon arrival, you will take the included scenic area shuttle bus directly to the core grotto zone.

As a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the crowning achievement of China’s late-period grotto art, Baodingshan was carved throughout the Southern Song Dynasty under the direction of Buddhist master Zhao Zhifeng over 70 years. Winding along the sandstone cliffs, you will encounter over 10,000 exquisitely carved statues spread across more than 30 grotto groups, including the iconic Six Paths of Reincarnation wheel, the towering Three Sages of Huayan, the gilded 1000-Hand Guanyin, and the storytelling Ox Herding Pictures. These carvings blend profound Buddhist doctrines with vivid secular daily scenes, showcasing the supreme craftsmanship and rich cultural imagination of ancient Chinese stone artisans.

Your guide will offer basic, concise explanations for the key landmarks along the route. Please note that professional in-depth commentary is not included.

12:30 – 13:30 – Local Lunch Break

Stop for lunch at a local restaurant near the scenic area, where you can sample authentic Dazu regional home-style dishes at your own expense.

13:30 – 15:00 – Return Journey

After completing the full scenic route, take the scenic shuttle bus back to the visitor center, then board your vehicle for the return drive to downtown Chongqing.

16:30 – Downtown Dismissal

The tour officially ends upon arrival in downtown Chongqing. You may be dropped off at your hotel or a preferred central location within the downtown area.

5 Days Private Tour of Chengdu - Leshan Buddha - Mt. Emei

My mom and I took this 5-day Chengdu tour. She's 68 and likes temples, tea, and slow walking. This trip was made for her. First day in Chengdu, our guide Wei took us to a local teahouse where old men played mahjong and parrots whistled. Mom loved it. Next day, Leshan Buddha. The stairs down to its feet are steep, but Wei found us a boat instead. Seeing the 71-meter giant from the river, mom just kept saying "wow." Emei Mountain was the highlight. We stayed overnight at a temple near the summit. Monks chanting at dawn, mist rolling through ancient pines. Mom cried a little. "My father told me about this place when I was a little girl," she said. Wei carried our bags the whole way. Small thing, meant everything. For anyone traveling with older parents in Sichuan, book this.
