Wuxi Day Trip from Shanghai

This morning, you will take a high speed train from Shanghai to Wuxi by yourself to begin your trip. We will book the train tickets and send you the booking record in advance. You only need to show your passport to board the train. Upon arrival in Wuxi, your local private guide and driver will meet you at the railway station. Take our non-smoking air-conditioned vehicle to begin your Wuxi tour from Shanghai.

First you will head to visit the Taihu Lake, the third largest freshwater lake in China. You will also stop over at Yuantouzhu Park and Li Garden.

It is a must for most travelers to visit Taihu Lake while in Wuxi and the essence of Taihu Lake lies in the Turtle Head Isle. The islet was so named because the similar appearance to a turtle with its head bent back. Here you can admire religious buildings on the Taihu Fairy Islands, as well as climb to the top of the Luding Hill to overlook the whole scenic area. If you come in March or April, an eyeful of pink cherry blossoms will refresh you.

Yuantouzhu Park is one of the world's top three places to enjoy cherry blossom. The best period to visit this scenic spot is in spring when the cherry trees blossom. The area of the Cherry Valley inside the park is very large, where you can fully enjoy the breathtaking view. Occasionally you could see some antique wooden boats sitting on the calm Taihu Lake, which may make you feel like traveling back in time.

Continue our visit to Liyuan Garden. Built in 1927, the Garden is a representative of Wuxi. It is quiet and peaceful on the banks of Lihu Lake. Wander around the Garden, you will see many local people playing Tai Chi which brings tranquility to the visit.

► Recommended Dining Option for Lunch (at your own expense):

You may want to dine at Peach Restaurant, which offers Chinese cuisine and is a decade-old brand that has expanded to have over thirty branches in Wuxi and neighboring cities. One is conveniently near Yuantouzhu Park and Liyuan Garden. You can find it on the second floor, with seats by window for diners to watch bustling street life and boats floating on river. The open kitchen allows guests to see chefs with 20 years of experience making Steamed Stuffed Bun. Popular dishes include Peach BBQ. There are also kid-friendly meal sets.

Average cost per person: CNY 75 / USD 10

Address: No.15-11, Hubin Commercial Street, Binhu District, Wuxi City

The last stop will be Huishan Old Town. The old town is well preserved and offering beautiful architectures and gardens to appreciate. With 118 ancestral temples from Tang Dynasty, it is also famous for the China family temple culture. Huishan Old Town is considered as an open-air museum for its long history and profound culture. Ancient local people depicted art by using clay, hence the well-known Huishan clay figurine, an excellent traditional national craft listed as a national intangible cultural heritage. You will find many kinds of brightly colored clay figurines in the old town.

After the trip is completed, your guide and driver will take you to the railway station for a train back to Shanghai. Wish you a pleasant trip!

We had an incredible time exploring Dali with Wandrift China Tour. The ancient towns, peaceful Erhai Lake and stunning snow-capped Cangshan Mountain took our breath away. Dali’s slow lifestyle, fresh air and unique local culture are absolutely charming. Every arrangement was well-organized, and our guide was friendly, professional and thoughtful. Thank you so much to Wandrift China Tour for creating such a wonderful and memorable Dali journey for our family. We truly enjoyed every moment.

The car is brand new. V rented it for two days: one day for a 10-hour tour in Hong Kong, and one day to take us to Shenzhen to visit and then return us to Hong Kong later that evening. NOT BAD.

My mom and I took this 5-day Chengdu tour. She's 68 and likes temples, tea, and slow walking. This trip was made for her. First day in Chengdu, our guide Wei took us to a local teahouse where old men played mahjong and parrots whistled. Mom loved it. Next day, Leshan Buddha. The stairs down to its feet are steep, but Wei found us a boat instead. Seeing the 71-meter giant from the river, mom just kept saying "wow." Emei Mountain was the highlight. We stayed overnight at a temple near the summit. Monks chanting at dawn, mist rolling through ancient pines. Mom cried a little. "My father told me about this place when I was a little girl," she said. Wei carried our bags the whole way. Small thing, meant everything. For anyone traveling with older parents in Sichuan, book this.
